Hello!

I haven't posted on here in over a year. Between then and now I have been a co-blogger (before giving up my duties to focus on my University studies) and I have now started up another blog which you can go to here. I am posting there twice a week and I am loving it. I kind of love Wordpress more than blogger. I love the easiness of it and the drafting system is just nicer. So yeah, just in case there's anyone still out there following this or checking up on it. That's where I am now..

P.s. I've been posting on instagram for over 2 years now, so if you feel like having a look back at what I've been reading the past year, feel free :)

I participated last year and I'm participating again this year (this post was written in January, but never posted hence why it's so late).
I've listed below all the books/series I would like to read but we'll see how that goes! As long as I can read at least 20 fantasy books, I'll be happy!
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">For some reason, I feel like I've read more than I thought but that could be because I have The Kiss of Deception and Ruin and Rising that I'm reading at the moment!

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">About two years ago, I wrote a post on e-readers vs physical books. I looked at the pros and cons of both but didn't actually own an e-reader myself (we have a family one, but I wasn't allowed to buy things on it at the time!). I received a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas 2015, and safe to say, I'm very happy with it. Although I haven't used it much since receiving it (I'm trying to half my physical TBR), it really is so handy.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So what do I think of e-readers now that I have one myself?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Well, I've found mine to be extremely handy. They're small, compact, can fit hundreds of books on them (although my Kindle library is at roughly 10-15 so far) and with mine, I can read well into the night with it. One thing I really like is how much shelf space I save as although I love having my pretty books on my shelves, I recently ran out of space and my books started stacking up on the floor until I thankfully bought a new shelf, but that's almost full and although I do have extra space on my old shelves, I know I'll fill that up in no time, so therefore, my Kindle is ideal.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">What I've found out when I read my Kindle books, is that I read them at a much faster rate than physical books. I'm not entirely sure why, I wonder if it's because I can see how long it would take me to read a book at the bottom and that spurs me on, but I've definitely found that I read books a lot quicker on my Kindle!
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Having a Kindle, for me, is a perfect solution to my almost overflowing shelves. I'm actually planning to take it to America with me in the Summer as 1) many books for the flight and 2) more luggage space to bring those nice US edition books back with me! I best get looking for some extra shelf space in my room!

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Do I prefer to read one over the other?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Not at all. I love physical books in my hand more than my Kindle, but I love how my Kindle tells me exactly how long it would take me to complete a book, which a physical book can't do. There are pro's and con's to each of them, but ultimately as long as I'm reading something, I don't mind the format. Although, I do love the pretty covers on physical books!
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Would I recommend getting an e-reader?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I most definitely would. Although I don't use mine a massive amount as I'm trying to whittle down my physical TBR, an e-reader is just so convenient and takes up so much less bag and shelf space. Like I said, there are pro's and con's to each, but I feel like a Kindle is definitely worth the investment. I know that just because I have a Kindle, it doesn't mean I will stop buying physical books. In fact, I buy a lot of my books from Amazon anyway, and a lot of them are from Independent Sellers on there, and if a physical book is cheaper from an independent seller in comparison to Kindle, then you can betcha I'll be buying the physical copy!
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So there you have it, that's my opinion on the great e-reader vs physical books debate now that I finally have my own!
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">You would be very correct if you're thinking that I am the worst blogger ever because I totally am. I haven't blogged anything since the very beginning of July last year, and we are now in March, closer to July 2016 than July 2015 so let's just hold up here a sec.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So where have I been and what have I been up to, I hear you ask?

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">WELL, let me do a little bit of a recap for you, but please bear in mind I may miss a few things out! (I'm really sorry this is such a text heavy post!)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">JULY

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In July I spent a week away in Portugal with my family and boyfriend and had the best time! It was so nice to go on holiday with my family again and to have my boyfriend there was even better! Although, I got extremely sunburnt the day before we went to the waterpark (bad idea) in my effort to get a tan, except I'm stupid and forgot to put suncream on after I got out of the sea. Perk to this was that I still have a tan line from July and it is now March! I also celebrated my birthday the day after we got back, so wahoo for that. Other than that I just worked and worked and that was it!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">AUGUST

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I literally did nothing this month apart from worked. I was working two jobs over the Summer which is good money wise but also sucked because I had 4 months off and I basically spent like 3 weeks of it not working and the rest working so there's that!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SEPTEMBER

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I finished my temporary summer job but was still working quite a bit except more time off in the week, yay! It was also freshers week (where me and my boyfriend broke up, which sucked a ton) and then I started second year of uni, how fun. So yeah, this month sorta sucked tbh.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">OCTOBER

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I went out(nights outs) a ton in October. There was a paint party which was so fun, and a few other things like a friends birthday, but other than that it was just uni and work. My life is so boring.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">NOVEMBER

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Once again, uni and work, uni and work. I had a few nights out but not loads, and I went up some hills that are close to where I live but it was absolutely freezing and I only went up the top of the one that I parked by. If it was warmer and less windy, I would've gone up much further. I started a temporary job this month for over Christmas so again I was working two jobs but I also had uni work (silly me) but it was ok..

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">DECEMBER

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">CHRISTMAS! Oh I love Christmas and this year we spent it with my whole family so that was fabby. I also had a Kindle for Christmas(!!!!) and read The Awakened and blasted through it and finished it that day (bit anti-social as I was sat in the chair in the corner of my grandparents living room just reading, but my cousins are all 8 and below and I am 20, so no thank you). Also this month was obvs New Years and I spent it with my one friend and it was such a hilarious night! Other than that I just worked two jobs still, finished Uni for Christmas, and then Boxing Day I finished my one job and just carried on with my temp one!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">JANUARY 2016

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Wow, I missed a lot of months on here.. So January I started back at uni to finish Semester 1 but was at Uni for two weeks before we broke up for January exams and marking week which is totally pointless because two weeks of uni and then two weeks off, but I'm not complaining. I didn't really do much other than work and uni again(I am seriously so boring) but I did celebrate one of my friends birthdays, yay! Also, we booked to go away to New York this Summer, so America, I'm coming for ya! I've also applied to be a co-blogger over at another blog so if I'm accepted, I'll be moving!

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">FEBRUARY

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We are almost there! This month I celebrated two of my friends 21st birthday, started semester 2 at uni, had an interview for another job that is opposite the one I'm working in (it's a department store and I'm moving from one concession to another..) and also, me and my ex-boyfriend got back together at the end of this month, yay! We also went on a trip to a forest and he helped me take some bookish pictures so that was good! So this month again, was uni and work but also a lot more fun with good things happening!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">MARCH

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We are up to date, FINALLY! So it's day 3 of this month but I can tell you what is coming up. I finish my job on one department and move to another on the 14th, I have a date night with my boyfriend coming up, I need to start working on my Uni project that I'm doing. Other than that, not a lot is happening. I have an assignment due for the 17th, but that's not so bad although I want to get started early so that I can have plenty of time on it as I had an essay due on the 29th Feb and I literally finished it at 11:30am that day so yeah, not a good move! This month, I've been thinking of moving over to wordpress (I'm waiting to see if I'm a co-blogger but if not, I'll make the move). Do any of you use wordpress?

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I hope you guys have had a good couple of months since we last spoke! I'm sorry for being so absent but since July I have been so busy with work and uni and uni work and everything else that's been happening! But finally I have time to breathe and write and read and all that sort of good stuff. I actually post pretty regularly over on my instagram (@gingerbreadbooks) so you should definitely check that out!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hope to be writing again soon!

so far. Right at the end of May, I started two new jobs – one permanent, one
temporary for over the summer, so this month has involved a lot of learning
about new things which I don’t mind particularly. My temporary job is actually
at the University I attend and worked at during my gap year, but in mid-June,
my department was holding a conference which I basically took over organisation
for. It was extremely stressful for me the day before it, like I don’t think
I’ve been so stressed in my life but it all turned out to be ok, thank god!

Self-made, self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby embodies some of Fitzgerald's--and his country's--most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings. "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning--"Gatsby's rise to glory and eventual fall from grace becomes a kind of cautionary tale about the American Dream.

The Great Gatsby is one of those classic books that is on
every ‘books you must read’ list. I’ve personally had it on my shelf since the
movie came out, but knew about it before I bought it. I’ll admit I’m not a big
classic reader, but I decided I’d try this one out. The problem is, I have mixed
feelings towards this book.

I won’t lie I did struggle with this book a bit. It took me
about a month to read it, but I was not giving up on it. I was so determined to
finish it that no matter how much I struggled, I carried on with it anyway just
so I could finally say I’ve read it. I have to say, I think I struggled with
how formal it was, but I did also struggle slightly with the story. It wasn’t
as interesting to me as I thought it would be. I felt that it lacked something,
and I found that the narrator, Nick, seemed to have confused feelings towards Gatsby.
I was also expecting there to be more of a glitz and glam lifestyle in the
book, but I felt that this was emphasised a bit too much as I didn’t find that
there was much. I felt that this book mainly just focused on the rich
characters.

The parts I most enjoyed of The Great Gatsby were the dialogue. I felt that all the wording in
between was a bit waffly at times. My liking of the dialogue in this book was
probably why I significantly enjoyed the second part of this book as there was
a lot more speech. The fact that the first part of the book was full of hardly
any dialogue is more than likely why I struggled with the book as it
demotivated me to continue reading it, hence why it took me a month to get
through it.

I did think the book was interesting, and I do see why it is
a classic but personally I don’t think it’s for me, or at least the first read
wasn’t. I’m not sure if I’ll ever re-read it again, although I do think I will
have to revisit the ending soon as I am not entirely sure what really happened
to Gatsby, other than the obvious (if you’ve read it, you’ll know what I mean).
I won’t deny, this book is a classic but personally for me, I didn’t enjoy it
as much as I thought I would. I’m not sure if that’s because there’s such a big
hype surrounding the book that it didn’t live up to expectations for me or just
because me and classic books have a complicated relationship. This doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it if someone asked me for a classic book to read though!

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to. Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Writing her own stories? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

I have been putting off reading Fangirl for such a long time, despite the glowing reviews for this book. Fangirl is the second book I have read by Rainbow Rowell with the first being Eleanor and Park, which I enjoyed. I've found that I thought I do enjoy Rowell's book, I have the same kind of relationship with her books that I do with John Green's, and I know that a lot of people compare the two, but both of their books feel kind of the same to me, although I can't quite put my finger on why.

I felt that Cath was an interesting character and I enjoyed getting to know her and the way she thought and I loved her determination for what she wanted to do. For me, it was interesting to see how Cath was without her sister. Cath and I are kind of different in the way that I think for Cath, being out of her comfort zone was difficult and a bit scary, whereas for me I don't mind it so much, but I think it was good with the way that she dealt with things.

Something that I thought was cool was the relationship that Cath had with her Dad. I haven't really read many books where the only parental figure in the characters life is the Dad, and to see that Cath had such a positive relationship with her father was really nice to read. The relationship between Cath and her sister Wren wasn't too overdone as Wren wasn't in the book all the time, but it was interesting to read how both of them coped with moving to University and not always being together.

To me, Fangirl was quite a light read with a topic that wasn't too heavy. I didn't love it like a lot of people have but I did enjoy it and like it, plus I thought it was a good read.

Would you Recommend?
If someone asked me for a light read, something that involved being at University, new experiences or family relationships then I would definitely recommend this.

April has been quite a busy month for me and I think it's only going to get busier with May coming up. As mentioned in my March look back (which I posted extremely late), I actually repainted my room at the beginning of April which I am totally in love with. It's so much more grown up and pretty! Plus with clearing out my room in the process, I cleared a shelf so I can have more books, woohoo!

May is going to be busy for me as I have 2 exams and two assignment deadlines, although one of the assignments is a portfolio of four pieces of work! So far I haven't started any of my assignments and I'm really struggling to revise for my exams as I feel that my course is a bit flimsy in comparison to other subjects such as Science or Math.

This month I read a total of 5 books which, in comparison to March when I read 10 books, is a little disappointing but I know that it's because this month has been fairly busy what with University coming to end meaning deadlines and exams coming up! Two of my favourite books that I read this month was The Start of Me and You and Ugly Love. I read both of these in a day each which is a bit crazy, I surprised myself if I'm honest! I also completed the Ruby Red trilogy. My reading goal for April was 6 books so I was almost there. I'm reading The Great Gatsby at the moment but I think it's dragged me into a reading slump..

My reading goal for this month is 4 books. It's low but it's because I have exams and deadlines so I'm not too bothered about only reading 4 books in May! In my March look back, I said I wanted to read some Fantasy books for the Flights of Fantasy challenge however that never happened, so hopefully once I've finished my exams, I can really throw myself into reading some Fantasy!

This month I'm hoping to get some more posts written and published, more than likely this will be done after my exams, although I have a lot of reviews to get through! Hope you all have a lovely May!

This post is long overdue, considering it's the middle of April but last month and the beginning of April was very busy. I had plenty of assignments due in March and at the beginning of April I redecorated my room which I am in love with! I'm now preparing for 3 exams that are coming up in May, and to say I'm nervous would be a bit of an understatement!

Despite this, I read plenty of books in March and totally shocked myself by reading 10 books this month. 10!! I think it's fair to say that I smashed my reading goal for March! I couldn't believe it when I counted them all up especially since it's probably been my busiest month with University so far. I don't think I'll be reading as many in April as I'm busy prepping for exams now!

My reading goal for the month is 6 books which is fairly reasonable I think especially with exams and things coming up. I'm hoping to try and get reading some more fantasy books within the next few months and I'm really slacking on the Flights of Fantasy reading challenge, having read just one book! I'm hoping to start Throne of Glass, Snow Like Ashes and Red Queen, as well as starting The Winner's Crime!

I hope you're all having a good month so far. I promise my April look back won't be published in the middle of May next time. I'm hoping that once my exams are out of the way, I can sit down and properly make a blog plan of action, as I feel like I'm a bit all over the place and some months I post loads and other months, there's nothing! If you'd like more frequent updates of what I'm reading, head on over to my instagram at alittlesomethingbookish, where I post which books I've bought/am reading!

Although fiction, you could tell a lot of research had been done on the period and the Suffragettes and that's not just because there was a bibliography at the back. As someone who really enjoys learning about the Suffragette movement, there are things that I leant when reading this that made me go and look into things further.

Another thing I loved was our main character Vicky, and that's not just because we share the same name! Vicky was a unique character, in which she was different from her mother, who I felt was a bit 'all about the image', whereas Vicky was a lot more focused on what she wanted out of life and how to get there. I think that having Vicky as the main character, who was such an empowering figure, was such a good move for this story, and I loved seeing her progression from where the book started to where we saw her at the end of it, if that makes sense!

There are so many reasons I gave this book 5 stars, but mainly it's because the writing was great, the characters stood for something and I learnt something! I love learning new things and this provided that for me.

I hadn't really head too much about this book, other than reading the summary so I went into this book with a clear mind. When the book started off, I wasn't too sure about how much I'd like it, it was interesting and I'd read that it was a bit of a cross between Rainbow Rowell and John Green, both being authors that I enjoy, but I didn't know if it'd be my thing due to the topic that the book kind of focuses on. I kept on with it anyway and I am so glad I did. It really picked up and became even more interesting.

I thought that the story was interesting and dealt with the subject of suicide well, particularly as the topic is quite a sensitive and touchy subject. I felt that after reading this I had actually developed a bit more of a better understanding.

I found the characters to be interesting and compelling. I enjoyed reading about the characters and getting to know them better. I particularly liked the relationship that formed between Finch and Violet and was so rooting for them pretty much the whole way through the book. It was interesting to see them develop, both in different ways, but together. I thought that this added something else to the book as it was plain to see that both characters were each others coping mechanism. This book doesn't just focus on the characters and their relationship. It also focuses on her things, including bits of adventure along the way.

The ending was a bit of a knock in the face. This is where the book kicks it up a notch, but ultimately, it ties up and makes for a 'good' ending to the book. I really enjoyed this book and was taken by surprise by it. Again, I wasn't really sure about it as I hadn't heard much but I found it interesting and a good read and would definitely recommend it!

Then something unthinkable happens, and the bottom drops out of Samantha's world. She's suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

My Life Next Door was a book that I was drawn to mainly because of the book spine..please don't ask me why, but I absolutely loved the stripy spine. Because of that, I obviously looked to see what the book was about and I was sold pretty much straight away. I bought this book back at the end of January (after a good few months of wanting it) and pretty much demolished it within a few days which shows positive things for Huntley Fitzpatrick's writing and stories, both of which I thought were great! I will be sure to visit another book of hers soon.

This book was so fun and so sweet. I absolutely loved the Garrett family, and Jase sounds so swoony! Definitely in the line up for top book boyfriends. Set over the Summer break in Stony Bay (sounds so cute!), this is where our main character Samantha really comes into herself, I think. It was interesting to read about her mother and political campaigns - I basically have no idea when it comes to politics and what goes on behind the scenes in the UK, let alone anywhere else, so this was really interesting to read about.

This book did so well in exploring real, first love. I was excited to see what would happen to Samantha and Jase throughout the story and what would happen to them as the story progressed. It was nice to read a bit of a summer romance, particularly this one as it was so sugar sweet!

I definitely did not see the ending coming at all. You know how pretty much every contemporary typically goes well and then takes a turn for the worst? I really did not see this one coming..at all. But in a way, I think that this makes the book even better as it's not just a typical turn for the worst. Plus I was intrigued to see what would happen!

Despite the fact that I did love this book, there was one thing that got me and that's just how quick the end was. I felt like it was a little rushed and all these things just happened at once, which is great but I just found that the perhaps 50 pages were a bit rushed!

My Life Next Door seriously made me wish for summer as it's such a perfect book for that season. It also made me wish that I had my own balcony to sit out on and gaze at the starts at night..a girl can dream!

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One thing I loved about this book is how different it was to anything else I'd ever read. Yes, it was all romantic and about love and two people getting together, but the one thing that was different about it, is that it was told from several people's perspectives, but never the couples. For example, a teacher, a barista and a delivery guy as well as the couples friends. We even saw the view points of a bench and a squirrel! It is definitely a unique book in that respect, which is something I definitely enjoyed. I think it was particularly refreshing actually, having a story told but never by the main characters in the story. I thought it was an interesting idea that Sandy Hall did really well.

Other than the unique aspect of the different view points, the book was fairly good but I think it was very predictable, not that this is a problem - it means you don't have to concentrate on it too much at all, making it light read that you can breeze through! It had an adorable but dorky romance which the book was centred around, which was made good by having the different perspectives of it. It is short, but sweet. I got through it fairly quickly so would definitely say that it is a nice, quick read, if that's something that you're looking for.

Oh, and can we just talk about the cover? I know I don't usually talk about book covers in reviews, but I just love this one. I think it's so pretty and I just love the colours and how well they go together. I also like how different parts of the book are featured on the cover!

February has been a little busy for me with a new University semester starting up at the beginning, and being thrust into all the work that comes with it! But other than that, it's been a fun month really. We celebrated my younger sisters birthday, celebrated Valentine's Day with my wonderful boyfriend - he gave me a massive teddy bear! I also celebrated a friends birthday! I just can't believe it's March already though, this year is already flying by, despite the fact that February did feel like it went on a bit. Funny considering it's the shortest month!

I've had a fairly good reading month, and read more than I thought I actually had - 5 books. I'm happy as my reading goal for this month was 5, wahoo! I'm keeping ahead of the Good Reads Reading Challenge schedule which is great for me - last year I didn't meet my target so this year is looking promising. I'm currently 4 books ahead!

In terms of blogging, I know I said that I was going to get back into reviewing but I just feel like I haven't had any time. My plan is to get my work all done and handed in, and then just have a day of focussing on the blog and writing posts!

This month is fairly hectic for me. I have 2 essays, a fieldwork report, two drafts to submit and an exam coming up mid-April. I'm also in the process of gearing up to redecorate my room at Easter. Therefore, my reading goal for the month is only 4 books. I'm still trying to quit buying books till I've got my TBR list down to 5 books, although I'm not counting pre-orders..

Have a great month!

This book definitely gave me mixed emotions. I really couldn't decide whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars because there are things that made me want to give it 4 stars, but then there were other things that made me question that rating.

First off, this book had me from the beginning. The book tells the story of a teenage girl that's been held captive for the 3 years but has no recollection of it whatsoever. This book had such an interesting concept to it which I enjoyed. It was really interesting to learn about new concepts, and it actually introduced me to something that I never knew. The book is definitely a chilling and touchy subject. It's not really very graphic, which I think was quite good, as although there are flashbacks, I feel that sometimes too much graphic content in a book can ruin it. This definitely hit the nail on the head with having just the right amount of information so that you felt sympathetic towards Angie, but it wasn't too the point where you felt like the information was a bit overwhelming. I think that Coley did a good job of dealing with such a touchy subject with this book.

Now here are some of the things that got me a bit. I really felt like the author tried to incorporate too much in this book. How much misfortune can you throw at one person! This really got on my nerves as I felt that the author was just forcing things in to the story to make it more interesting, which yes, I suppose it did but at the same time, I just felt like some things were unnecessary. I also thought that there would be much more of a media presence round the case of missing Angie and her return, but strangely there was not, which was surprising too me. Obviously I realise it's not the main focus of the book at all, but it's just surprising that there was little mention of it until perhaps the middle to end of the book.

Other than those few bits, I did enjoy reading Pretty Girl Thirteen, and it still does make it's way into my mind a few times. I think it's one of those books that's got a gritty, intense story line that can really effect you after you finish reading it. That's definitely the effect that it had on me.

I would definitely recommend this book, but more so to people that don't mind intense, gritty and chilling books.

I can't believe we have already had the first month of 2015! It feels like we hardly had January at all! January saw the name change of this blog. For a while now, I've been thinking about changing it but I couldn't think what too. It's not that I didn't like the name, I just wanted something a bit different. You can always trust you bookshelves to inspire you, so apapertown was changed to alittlesomethingbookish which I really love!

January has been a pretty good reading month for me. I've read 6 books which is 1 more than I aimed to read! I'm fairly happy with this and have made a dent in my Good Reads goal of 52! I'm actually ahead of it at the moment, which I'm pretty happy with but let's see how long that lasts for as in March I have quite a few assignments due plus an exam!

In terms of my life, January has been pretty laid back. I finished my first semester of University, I've had 2 weeks off as well to mark the end of the semester which is probably why I've been able to read so much! I'm also hopefully going to be booking a trip soon for May with my boyfriend - one of those short city breaks, but we haven't decided where yet! Oh, I also started an instagram for my blog, you can find me by searching alittlesomethingbookish.

I'm pretty impressed with myself and how many books I've read this month. I read 6 books, all of which I have enjoyed. One of my reading goals was to read The Winner's Curse and Rebel Belle and I read one of these books so I'm happy with that as I usually find it hard to stick to monthly TBR lists!

So what's coming up next month?
Well in terms of books, I'm hoping to be posting more reviews this month. In the second half of 2014, I really slacked on reading and reviews, but this year I really want to get this blog up and running again. I'm already getting reviews from the Summer done and posted, but you should be seeing some more reviews coming your way so watch this blog!

This month, I'm aiming to read 5 books as I'm starting back at University for Semester 2 and the month will be full of preparation for essays to be handed in in March, as well as other assignments and an exam! I'll also be carrying on with the Flights of Fantasy challenge. I'm hoping to read at least one fantasy book a month, as a lot of the books on my shelves are contemporary and at the moment, I'm trying to stop spending money on books as I've got so many to read (pre-orders don't count though)!

Amy Curry is not looking forward to her summer. Her mother decided to move across the country and now it's Amy's responsibility to get their car from California to Connecticut. The only problem is, since her father died in a car accident, she isn't ready to get behind the wheel. Enter Roger. An old family friend, he also has to make the cross-country trip - and has plenty of baggage of his own. The road home may be unfamiliar - especially with their friendship venturing into uncharted territory - but together, Amy and Roger will figure out how to map their way.

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour is the second book I have read by Morgan Matson, having first experienced her writing with Since You've Been Gone which I loved. Despite this, I let it sit on my shelves a few weeks after buying it, scared that I wouldn't love it as much as Since You've Been Gone. I didn't need to worry much, because I really enjoyed this book! Amy and Roger's Epic Detour was a fun read which I thought was great. I felt it was kind of predictable, but this didn't bother me in the slightest. I thought it was quite interesting and I can already say that the list of stops is already on my list of places to visit!

Matson has a knack for creating realistic characters that you can relate to in some way. Although our main character wasn't necessarily mourning, I thought that it was nice to see the connection that Amy had with her father. I also really enjoyed seeing how Amy dealt with different things throughout the book. The book definitely saw Amy come into her own throughout the duration of the book, and I quite enjoyed having her as a main character.

The one thing that I loved about this book is that it was a bit of a rebellion towards her mother and staying on track, but it also included friendship, which is something I love in books and something that I've noticed Morgan Matson does really well. This book was just a whole load of great and I loved it. For me, it ticked loads of boxes which made it a good read for me.

Oh, and just too add - one thing that I liked about this book was the visuals within it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone as a summer read as it's just perfect for that time of year!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to make a quick announcement that the name of this blog has changed to alittlesomethingbookish!

It's not so much that I didn't like apapertown but it's just that when on twitter/tumblr/instagram, the name had been taken, so therefore I thought I'd change it. If you'd like to follow me on any other platforms, you can catch me at...

Twitter: @alittlesbookish (had to miss out the something, darn limited characters!)
Tumblr: alittlesomethingbookish.tumblr.com
Instagram: alittlesomethingbookish
Email: apapertown@hotmail.com

Please note that I haven't changed my email as I feel that it would be a lot more hassle to change all the accounts connected to it, plus it's fairly easy to remember!

Also, if you were following me on bloglovin, as I changed my blog name, I lost all my followers on there so I'd really appreciate it if you'd be able to follow me again. Just click here to follow again! :)

Here's to more bookish times!

The creative writing teacher, the delivery guy, the local Starbucks baristas, his best friend, her roommate, and the squirrel in the park all have one thing in common—they believe that Gabe and Lea should get together. Lea and Gabe are in the same creative writing class. They get the same pop culture references, order the same Chinese food, and hang out in the same places. Unfortunately, Lea is reserved, Gabe has issues, and despite their initial mutual crush, it looks like they are never going to work things out. But somehow even when nothing is going on, something is happening between them, and everyone can see it. Their creative writing teacher pushes them together. The baristas at Starbucks watch their relationship like a TV show. Their bus driver tells his wife about them. The waitress at the diner automatically seats them together. Even the squirrel who lives on the college green believes in their relationship.

Surely Gabe and Lea will figure out that they are meant to be together....

The summer before senior year of high school. It’s supposed to be one of the biggest summers of her life, but Pippa is headed to an art program she has no interest in. The one saving grace is it’s in Italy. And when the opportunity strikes, she decides to ditch the program and travel Italy accomplishing her own list of goals. Things like swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, eating a whole pizza in one sitting…and falling in love with an Italian boy! As she explores the famous cities of Rome and Pompeii, Pippa finds herself falling for two boys: a local guy she knows is nothing but trouble and a cute American archaeology student who keeps disappearing and reappearing at the strangest moments. Will Pippa find her true love before her parents find out the truth about her summer program?

Having been to Italy before and absolutely loving it, I was really looking forward to reading this book and I wasn't disappointed. It was quite a sweet read, particularly for the Summer. I read it way back in August so this review is long overdue but I still remember the story and its details.

The book had an interesting but romantic storyline. First off, there was rebellion, which I thought was a good to start off on and progress from. I enjoyed the travelling in this book - the places featured are all ones that I would love to visit some day. This book did feature a love triangle which I felt took up a lot of the story, however I felt that this didn't mean the book strayed too much away from the setting, as the parts of Italy our main character, Pippa, travelled too was still spoken about in detail.

I think this book was interesting because Pippa was being forced to attend a program she didn't want to attend. I feel like this book was easy to relate to in that aspect as I'm sure many people feel forced into doing things by their parents, especially in regards to education, and this book shows that you don't always have to do what you feel like you'r being forced to do. You could totally just travel round Italy instead!

This book is, as said earlier, is a perfect summer read. It gives me the urge to go and grab some ice cream, despite the fact that it is January and freezing cold at the moment!

Once again, January has come around. I can't believe how quickly the last year has gone, I hope it slows a bit this year! In my previous post, I outlined some of my blogging and reading goals for the year. One of my reading goals is to stop specifying which books are on my TBR list for the month, and instead give myself target number of how many books I'd like to read each month! There are a few books I know I'd like to read this month, but as a mood reader, I can't guarantee I'll actually read them this month!
I have two essays in for the 19th and 20th, so I know that in the lead up to that, I probably won't read very much therefore I don't want to set a high goal that I know I won't be able to reach! Two books that I am hoping to read this month are Rebel Belle and The Winner's Curse but I won't hold myself to them too much for this month! What's on your TBR for the month?
All but 3 of these are books that I got for Christmas. The other 3 which are The Winners Curse, Burn for Burn and This Song Will Save Your Life were bought at a different time in December.
First of all, happy 2015 everybody!I hope you all had a lovely New Years Eve/Day! 2014 has been a bit of a roller coaster but I've enjoyed it!

In 2014, this blog was born and since having started this blog, I have began to read a whole lot more than pervious years, paid more attention to book recommendations and have been introduced to plenty of other book blogs! Personally, I started a new job in June and then in September I quit it and started studying History at University. This was pretty big for me but I'm very happy with my decision. All in all, 2014 has been a life changing, but happy year for me. I'm hoping that 2015 will also be a great year - I already have a few concerts and a holiday to look forward too!

1. Read 60+ books - In 2014 I had a GoodReads Challenge of 40 books. I manage 36 which isn't great, but I know this is because of work and then starting University. I also didn't read anything for a whole month so that didn't help! My goal for 2015 is 60 however I would like to smash this and go further!

2. Read more of a variety - For the most part, I've noticed I tend to stick to Contemporary YA. I do own some Fantasy however I would like to read more. I'd also like to dip into Historical Fiction.
3. Don't specify books to read for the month - As a mood reader, I can never stick to my TBR list that I create for each month. Instead of specifying 5+ books to read in a month, I would rather specify 1 or 2 books so that I'm not forcing myself to read books on my monthly TBR.
4. Create reading goals per month - This relates to the resolution above. I'd like to create a target of how many books to read per month. This relates back to being a mood reader, as this allows me to be a lot more flexible with what I read.
5. Read 5 Classics - I've never enjoyed classics that much in the past, however I would like to read a few this year and get a taste for them especially as I'm a bit older before.

This year I'd like to blog a lot more and become more consistent.
2. Be more blog organised - Relating to the resolution above, I want to become a lot more organised with this blog and posting.
3. Blog maintenance - I read plenty of other blogs and have noticed that many have very clean and tidy appearances. This year I'd like to take my blog design up a notch, and perhaps even learn a bit of HTML. I have already thought about paying for a blog design but feel I should wait until I am posting a lot more consistently!
4. Blog post formats - This year I would like to change the way I write reviews. I tend to feel that my writing is not that great in my reviews, therefore I would like to change the way in which I write each review post.
5. Blog memes/features - I would really like to get involved with more blog memes and features. I did participate for a bit in a few memes however this stopped when I took a break from blogging!

1. Be more organised - As I'm balancing uni, work, blog, life as well as my accounting studies, I feel like this year I really need to be a lot more organised. This year I actually have a planner that I feel will really help me to become a lot more organised!
2. Pick up photography again - When I was at college, I did an A-Level in Photography which I really enjoyed. This year I would really like to pick up photography again. Maybe I'll take up book photography!
3. Be more thankful - This year I want to take the time to be a lot more thankful and appreciative of what I've got. I don't feel like I really take the time to appreciate my life and what I have enough.
4. Spend more time with family - Throughout my teens, I started to become distant from my family, spending a lot of time in my room. As I'm coming to the end of my teens now, I'm starting to realise just how important family is therefore I want to spend more time with my family this year.
5. Learn to save and budget - One of my problems since starting work almost 4 years ago has been learning to save my money and budgeting myself. Although I saved money when I was working full time, now I'm back in full time education and working part time, I'm realising just how much I need to save so this year I want to set a target of how much I'd like to save for the year and budget myself on how much I can spend per month.
Love ignites in the City That Never Sleeps, but can it last?

Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on introspective cartoonist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to confront the challenges every young couple must face, including family drama, uncertainty about their college futures, and the very real possibility of being apart.

I finished this book a few days after it had come out however have been avoiding writing this (and all the other reviews of books I've read..) since. I don't know why, considering you should all know by now that I absolutely love all 3 books by Stephanie Perkins, it's no secret how much I adored Anna and the French Kiss!

Isla and the Happily Ever After is the perfect conclusion to the Anna and the French Kiss trilogy. Although I still can't decide which book I enjoyed the most, it's most definitely a tie between Anna and Isla.

I can't express to you how happy I was to finally get my mitts on this, neither can I express to you how much I enjoyed this book. There were so many different elements that I enjoyed - the starting location of the book which then moved to Paris and then from there to a few places. I enjoy planning my travels and reading about travel in books so the way this was incorporated was something that I really enjoyed and felt like it added another dimension to the story.

One thing I can't understand, is how Perkins creates such dynamic and great characters. I really just don't get it, but I love it. I feel like I can really connect to the characters in Perkins' books, and Isla is no different. I particularly like the fact that our main male character is Josh who we were originally introduced to in Anna. Having been introduced previously to this character and already knowing some things about him, I felt that this book was interesting because it really formed Josh and helped us to see his background, which I thought was a great idea. If you've read Anna and Isla, you've probably also noticed that Isla is featured briefly in Anna, so seeing how Perkins has done a crossover between the stories is a great feature!

I absolutely loved Isla, the pace was perfect, there was just enough of everything from romance to comedy. Oh, and that ending! The ending was really perfect for me. I couldn't believe what I was reading but it really brought the story to a close and left me feeling satisfied. I am sad that the trilogy is over, but knowing that there is a short story out by Stephanie Perkins (My True Love Gave to Me) does ease the pain!
